Prevest Fusion Bond 5 – Light-Curing Total Etch One-Component Bonding Adhesive

Fusion Bond 5 is a light-curing total-etch one-component bonding adhesive developed for bonding restorative materials to tooth structure. It is a 5th-generation dentine/enamel bonding agent supplied as a one-bottle system and is designed to simplify the bonding procedure.

The adhesive is used after conditioning the enamel and dentin with an etchant. The manufacturer describes it as a multifunctional bonding agent for both dentine and enamel, with applications in direct restorative dentistry as well as selected indirect restorative procedures.

For direct restorations, Fusion Bond 5 is indicated as an adhesive for light-curing and dual-curing composite and compomer restorations. For indirect restorations, it can be used with light-initiated resin cements for all-ceramic and composite inlays, onlays, veneers, and full-coverage crowns.

The product chemistry includes resin-based monomers, curing initiators, stabilizer, and solvent. The manufacturer’s promotional literature also identifies a resin-diffusion-based formulation containing nano-silica.

For Direct Restorations

1. Isolate the treatment area. A rubber dam is the preferred method of isolation.
2. Prepare the cavity with minimal tooth reduction and bevel the cavosurface enamel margins.
3. Apply the etchant to enamel and dentin.
4. Allow the etchant to remain for 15 seconds.
5. Rinse thoroughly for 10 seconds.
6. Blot excess water using a cotton pellet or mini-sponge. The surface should remain glistening without pooling of water.
7. Immediately apply 2–3 consecutive coats of Fusion Bond 5 to etched enamel and dentin using a fully saturated applicator with gentle agitation for 15 seconds.
8. Gently air-thin for 5 seconds to evaporate solvents.
9. Light cure for 20–30 seconds.
10. Place, cure, and finish the restorative material according to the restorative material manufacturer’s instructions.

For Porcelain Veneers and Indirect Restorations

1. Ensure the porcelain bonding surface has been appropriately etched by the dental laboratory where applicable.
2. Apply Ceramic Primer to the bonding surface and dry for 5 seconds.
3. Clean the prepared tooth with plain pumice slurry, rinse thoroughly, and dry.
4. Apply etchant to enamel and dentin for 15 seconds.
5. Rinse for 10 seconds and blot excess water without desiccating the surface.
6. Apply 2–3 consecutive coats of Fusion Bond 5 for 15 seconds using gentle agitation.
7. Air-thin for approximately 5 seconds.
8. For veneer bonding, the IFU specifies not to light-cure the adhesive on the tooth or veneer before seating.
9. Apply one coat of adhesive to the acid-etched, silane-treated veneer and dry thoroughly.
10. Apply the recommended luting cement to the veneer bonding surface.
11. Seat the veneer, remove excess luting cement, and cure according to the luting cement manufacturer’s instructions.

• Fusion Bond 5 is intended solely for professional dental use.

• Store between 10°C and 24°C (50°F–75°F).

• Close the bottle cap carefully after use and keep the product away from moisture.

• The manufacturer states that shelf life is not affected after opening when stored in a cool, dry place.

• Shelf life is 3 years from the date of manufacture.

• Do not use in patients known to be allergic to any ingredient of the material.

• Do not use with purely self-curing composite materials. Dual-curing materials must be light-activated.

• Do not use for direct pulp capping.

• The material is an irritant. Avoid contact with skin, mucous membranes, and eyes.

• In case of skin contact, wash immediately with soap and water.

• In case of eye contact, rinse with copious amounts of water for at least 15 minutes and seek medical attention.

• Avoid prolonged contact with oral soft tissues.

• Protect dental personnel from exposure to uncured material and use appropriate protective gloves and a no-touch technique.

• Materials containing eugenol or clove oil may inhibit polymerisation of Fusion Bond 5.
